About Vanderbilt Wishmakers
Mission Statement
Vanderbilt Wishmakers seeks to improve the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions by working with and raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
History of Vanderbilt Wishmakers
Vanderbilt Wishmakers began as a student organization in 2006. Vanderbilt Wishmakers directly partners with Make-A-Wish® Middle Tennessee and strives to grant at least one wish each school year. To learn more about the dreams we have helped fulfill, please see the Wishes Granted page.
Upon submitting its constitution to the Office of Student Organizations, Vanderbilt Wishmakers was officially founded in the end of 2005 by Andrew Beel. The first general body meeting was hosted in the beginning of 2006. Several fundraisers were attempted before the Rake-A-Thon really took off, including a Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's and selling blue Make-A-Wish bracelets.
We have raised over $29,940 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation since our inception, and we raised over 28% more in 2010 than we did in 2009. Currently, we are capable of granting 1 child's wish every year, but ideally we would love to grant 2 or more wishes per year.
